Suzanna Lai (MA, RP)

Registered Psychotherapist

SuzHeadshot

Hello, my name is Suzanna. I am a Registered Psychotherapist licensed with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I have worked in health care for 20 years. I started my career as a registered radiation technologist and worked in major hospitals such as Sick Kids and University Health Network. During my time working as a front-line health care worker, I started to notice many of my patients’ physical ailments are acutely associated with their struggle with mental and social health. They all desire for comprehensive healing and wellness that involve all aspects of their lives. It sparked my interest to explore and study the human conditions and psychology.

I approach therapy and healing from a holistic biopsychosocial and spiritual perspective. I believe all my clients are created beautifully and purposefully. They are all worthy of love, respect, understanding, compassion and hope. They are all doing their best and want to do their best. They all have the potential to achieve their goals. And they all possess resources and wisdom that they can access to live a fulfilled and unique life, a life that’s worth living!

On the journey of healing with my clients, I take on the role of a sojourner and coach. My clients are the expert of themselves. Through reflection and self-discovery, we uncover untapped wisdom, reservoirs, and strength that have always been there. We learn skills and emotional tools to manifest discovered beauty and strength. With new insights, perspectives, emotional schema, and understanding, clients summit at a place where hope, possibilities, and freedom exist.

Although I approach mental health from an enrichment and wellness stance, instead of a condition focused perspective, some of the barriers that I work with are: depression, anxiety, stress, emotion management and attunement, transition difficulty, couples and family relations, parenting, grief and loss, bipolar, trauma, self-esteem, religious guilt, attachment injury, suicidal thoughts and attempt, and self-harm. I generally work with adolescents and adults over 14 years of age.

I frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Solution Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing to work with clients. I offer therapy in English and Mandarin.

My service can be covered by extended health insurance with Registered Psychotherapist coverage. The clinic also offers FREE insurance navigation service to help you confirm your coverage.

It takes a lot of courage and wisdom for one to prioritize his/her mental health and holistic well being. It’s a privilege for me to serve and journey with each one of my clients. I’d be honoured to embark on your healing and self-discovery journey with you. You are not alone.

Kathy Yee Ching Lam (RP, MDiv, RSW)

Registered Psychotherapist/Registered Social Worker

I’m a Registered Psychotherapist/Registered Social Worker, committed to helping individuals and couples to lead fulfilled lives and to build meaningful relationships. I’m passionate to work with you to empower you with enhanced emotional awareness, mindful self-compassion, and to ease your sense of feeling stuck and conflicted within yourself and interpersonally.
I hold a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Hong Kong, and a Master of Divinity from Tyndale Seminary, specializing in clinical counselling. I also strive for ongoing professional developments (see below) in order to facilitate more informed experiences with my clients.
Before joining Get Well Clinic, I have worked with clients with various needs, such as those who have mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, and borderline personality disorder, as well as those who feel distressed by relationships in the contexts of work, home, and school. I also worked with clients who suffered from different traumas by providing psychoeducation on trauma responses. In collaboration, the client and I worked together to reframe their narratives of victimhood to survivorship by getting equipped with various coping strategies.
Throughout my practice and education, I enjoy becoming more educated on human psychology. By relating what I have learnt to my life, I have gained more significant tools and insights to reflect on my personal life journey, such as how my family and other relationships have impacted and shaped myself. I would like to share my learnings with you, to serve and help you who are struggling as I have struggled in my relationships.
Outside of work, you would find me baking, crafting, and gardening, and I enjoy it the most when I can do them with my loved ones. I also enjoy community life because I’m a strong believer that we are wired for connections – we all need someone – friends, families, or co-workers, to experience the ups and downs in life together.

HOW I CAN HELP

With different responsibilities, commitments, and desires in life, we often become disconnected from ourselves and important people in our lives. As a practitioner, I understand the significance of ones’ early attachment, as well as how it extends to adulthood and impacts our views of self and of others.
I would like to help you to explore and express your feelings, discover what has blocked you from emotional well-being, and integrate your strengths and resilience through psychotherapy.
I value collaboration between the client and the therapist. I trust that you know your experiences the best. As the expert of your experiences, you have total autonomy in my sessions; your willingness to share will be respected, and the agency of what, how, and whether to change remains with you. I am committed to creating a safe, warm, and accepting therapeutic environment as we work towards your goal.

MY APPROACH
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is my main approach to therapy. An evidence-based, humanistic and experiential approach, EFT is built upon the foundation of attachment theory, which views human beings as innately relational, social and wired for intimate bonding with the others.
The EFT model prioritizes emotion and emotional regulation as the key organizing agents in individual experience and key relationship interactions (ICEEFT, n.d.). I will guide you to identify, reflect, and make sense of your emotional experiences, which will then lead to transformation.
I also adopt models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), and Self-compassion approach.

Amelia Bowler, BEd, MADS, BCBA

A consultant for your child's behavioural challenges.

http://ameliabehaviour.com/

I listen and solve problems, using behaviour analysis. I specialize in helping children and teens with special needs and learning disabilities, including autism, ADHD, and multiple exceptionalities. I can help to create solutions for home or school. I look forward to supporting you!

In behaviour consultation, I interview and observe to determine the function of the behaviour (why is it happening) and then we work to find a replacement behaviour, so that the learner can build socially important skills, for community participation.

My focus as a behaviour analyst is to help learners find positive feedback in the world around them. This requires deep clinical knowledge, empathy, and creativity. I am continually seeking professional development and extending my areas of competence.

I speak the following Languages: English, French

More about Amelia...

I’m a goofy mother, a passionate mentor, and relentlessly curious nerd.

As a child, I was obsessed with two things: logic puzzles and drawing. I became a teacher, then a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst, and I have somehow found a way to combine all of those gifts.
I decode challenging behaviour, I design and teach evidence-based, real-world solutions, and then I create beautiful visuals to help families actually put those new skills to work.

If you see yourself snapping at your loved ones, doubting your abilities as a parent, dreading the same inevitable arguments and escalations each day, and wondering how you are ever going to get through this jungle, you will need a clear map to find your way out.

Every family is different, and no two behaviour plans are exactly alike, but the purpose is almost always the same: escaping from chaos and conflict, and finding those hacks that help you glide though the hardest parts of their day.

When the daily craziness is minimized, there is so much more room for love, sweetness, learning and wholeness in families. It’s my mission to get you there, using the science of Applied Behaviour Analysis.

If you want to talk about what has you stuck right now, send me a note, or book an appointment! Contact 416.508.5691
